Beaucoup de travail ce week-end…Après avoir passé 3 semaines au frigo et 1 semaine à température ambiante dans l’obscurité, c’est l’explosion chez les graines de séquoias…Plus d’une douzaine de graines à mettre en terre.
Tout d’abord, il a fallut acheter un fongicide pour préparer le substrat afin d’éviter la fonte des semis. Cela peut paraître une précaution inutile mais les jeunes plantules sont très sensibles aux champignons et com
me le terreau doit rester constamment humide, il est préférable de vaporiser un anti-fongique.
Le mieux est de vaporiser le fongicide sur le substrat puis de mélanger le terreau avant de le mettre en pots individuels. Ensuite, il ne reste plus qu’à faire un trou et placer les jeunes graines germées. Ainsi, on évite de préparer 50 pots sans savoir si la graine est viable ou pas.
On remet le reste des graines dans le noir à température ambiante car la germination peut avoir lieu entre quelques jours et plusieurs semaines. Le fait de sélectionner des graines bien renflées au départ permet de s’assurer un excellent rendement. Si des moisissures se développent, il faut vaporiser un fongicide sur le papier filtre, et enlever les graines atteintes…ou mieux, changer de papier.
Une deuxième partie du week-end a été consacrée au déplacement de mon séquoia…Il poussait très bien dans mon petit coin pépinière mais il était situé juste sous la ligne à haute tension… Donc il a fallut creuser une tranchée de 50 cm de profondeur pour garder la motte de l’arbre entière. Ensuite, il a fallu sortir l’arbre du trou…plus facile à dire qu’a faire avec une motte d’au moins 70 kg…Puis transport en remorque, brouette et enfin brancard improvisé… Sur le lieu de plantage, un pralinage a été réalisé pour recouvrir les racines qui étaient à nu. Le trou a été remplit de terreau et d’engrais pour conifère… Et enfin, ne pas oublier le tuteur pour éviter que l’arbre se désolidarise du sol en cas de grand vent avant de s’être bien enraciner.
